Fitness boost for midfielder

Mauro Camoranesi has returned to training to boost Italy ahead of their opening game against Paraguay. The Juventus midfielder had not featured in any of the practice sessions since injuring his knee just before Marcello Lippi announced the final 23-man Azzurri squad on 1st June. But he was able to join in with the rest of the squad on Wednesday as Italy trained for the first time hours after arriving in South Africa. AC Milan playmaker Andrea Pirlo was unable to make it out onto the pitch due to a calf problem that could keep him out of the early part of the tournament. Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio did only some light running up and down the touchline while the rest of the squad warmed up together. Then Camoranesi was taken away from the group to test out his left knee in a series of turns and shots. Reigning World Cup champions Italy are in Group F with New Zealand and Slovakia as well as Paraguay.
