Greek striker signs until summer 2012

Greek striker Theofanis Gekas has joined Eintracht Frankfurt from Bundesliga rivals Bayer Leverkusen. The 29-year-old has arrived at the Commerzbank-Arena for a fee of one million Euros and has signed a two-year deal with the German club. "I am delighted to be able to fulfil the wish of our coach and sign Theofanis Gekas, a dangerous striker with lots of experience," said Frankfurt chairman Heribert Bruchhagen. Frankfurt coach Michael Skibbe will welcome the arrival, even if it does come later than he had hoped. Skibbe originally tried to sign Gekas last summer but Bruchhagen failed to support the bid and the deal fell through. Gekas, part of the Greece squad for the World Cup, spent the first half of last season as a bit-part player at Leverkusen before sealing a loan move to Hertha Berlin, where he scored six goals. The experienced striker also had a spell on loan with Portsmouth last season where he made just one appearance.
