Alexander Baumjohann has left Bayern Munich to return to Bundesliga rivals Schalke.
The two clubs agreed an undisclosed fee for the 22-year-old, who has penned a three-and-a-half year contract at the Veltins Arena.
Baumjohann came through the ranks with the Gelsenkirchen outfit before moving to Borussia Monchengladbach in 2007.
After impressing there he joined Bayern last year but only made three top-flight appearances under Louis van Gaal.
He will now hope to get his career back on track with Schalke during the second half of the season.
