Mainz have sacked coach Jorn Andersen on the eve of the new season.
The Bundesliga campaign kicks off this weekend, but newly-promoted Mainz have opted to part company with Andersen.
Andersen took charge of the club last summer, replacing Jurgen Klopp who joined Borussia Dortmund.
But despite guiding them to promotion, Mainz have opted to part company with him.
"We at FSV Mainz 05 have a clear idea of how a manager should go along with a squad and its environment," Mainz general manager Christian Heidel said.
"Team-work, a close relationship with the squad and internal communications are key in this.
"We feel Mainz 05 and Jorn Andersen do not have these roots in common any longer as the manager has headed into another direction."
Reports suggest that the club's Under-19 coach Thomas Tuchel will be given the chance to succeed Andersen.
