Reports suggest Dortmund would sell if they received £3.5m offer
Borussia Dortmund have confirmed that they have received an approach from FC Basel for striker Alexander Frei.
The 30-year-old still has another year to run on his contract but the Bundesliga club could be willing to sell if they receive an offer of around £3.5million.
The Swiss international has an enviable goalscoring record wherever he has played throughout his career with an average of close to a goal every other game.
The former Rennes hot-shot has 31 goals in 69 league games for Dortmund but Basel are determined to bring him back to the club where he began his career.
"It is a fact that FC Basel has been getting in touch with us about the prospect of signing Alexander Frei these months," Dortmund general manager Michael Zorc told
Reviersport.
"We have officially noticed the interest of the club in our player."

Meanwhile Frei confessed that he would be interested in a move back to his homeland after more than 10 years away.
"Up to now there were no suitable bids that would see me leave Dortmund, but if there are chances that are good enough I would definitely consider a transfer," he told
Blick.
"I started my career in my country and I want to finish it there. I was a Basel player in between the time I was 16 to 19.
"I never showed up for Basel in a first-team fixture, however Basel would be a place to go.
"As a child I was regularly attending home matches of that club."
