Croatia international departs Hertha Berlin

Experienced Croatia international defender Josip Simunic has joined Hoffenheim from Bundesliga rivals Hertha Berlin. The 31-year-old has signed a three-year contract after the two clubs reached an agreement over a fee of 7million euros (£6million). Simunic has been capped 70 times by his country and has spent the past 12 years in Germany with Hertha and Hamburg. The centre-back's time in the German capital looked to be coming to a close after falling out with coach Lucien Favre. Simunic believes the knowledge he has gained from his years in the Bundesliga will be an asset to his new club. He told Hoffenheim's official website: "I see in Hoffenheim a young, modern club with large ambitions and I will be able to transmit my experience to this young team which has much potential."
