Cologne striker won't get contract extension

Slovenian striker Milivoje Novakovic has had a contract extension request rejected by Cologne. The 29-year-old recently signed a deal keeping him at the Rhein Energie Stadion until June 2011. But he now wants to add a further two years to that deal. Cologne manager Michael Meier wants to keep Novakovic at the club but is not prepared to re-enter negotiations so soon after his previous contract was agreed. "We are really happy to have him, but he has to keep waiting," Meier told Express. "We just signed an extension until June 2011 and strikingly increased his wages. We have been keeping faith in him when criticism was harsh at the beginning here. "After promotion he then has been given that massive lift in wages and we are really happy about his performances. But we are definitely not digging back into negotiations after barely six months." Many European clubs, including Shakhtar Donetsk, are believed to be interested in Novakovic.
