Ivorian signs loan deal at league leaders

Bundesliga leaders Hoffenheim have signed Werder Bremen striker Boubacar Sanogo on loan for the remainder of the season. Following a serious injury to top scorer Vedad Ibisevic, the surprise package of this season's Bundesliga swooped sharply to replace him with Sanogo, who has had his first-team chances limited at Bremen. Hoffenheim also have the option to sign the Ivorian on a permanent deal come the end of the season and the player himself admits mixed reaction to the move. "It all came as a surprise. I am happy and sad at the same time," said the striker. "I have been happy here, but maybe I will have a chance to play more at Hoffenheim." Hoffenheim general manager Jan Schindelmeiser welcomes Sanogo to his squad and believes he can help the club with their title charge. "Not only does Boubacar speak German, he also knows the Bundesliga very well," he said. "Sanogo is the type of player who can fill the gap left by Vedad Ibisevic."
