France defender suffering with Achilles' tendon injury

Bayern Munich manager Uli Hoeness has announced that defender Willy Sagnol is set to retire after failing to recover from an Achilles tendon injury. The France international underwent surgery on the problem in August but he has been unable to recover and is now planning to hang up his boots. Sagnol also missed the majority of last season with a knee injury and a slipped disc and Hoeness admits that he feels sorry for the 31-year-old after the pair discussed the issue. "I had a chat with Willy Sagnol this week and it is my understanding that he will end his career," Hoeness told tz. "I feel very sorry for Willy. This is a very sad fate." Sagnol has been capped 58 times by France and has been with Bayern since 2000, winning the UEFA Champions League the following year.
