Per Mertesacker has put pen-to-paper on a contract extension with Bundesliga side Werder Bremen.
Germany international Mertesacker, who is currently representing his country at Euro 2008, has impressed for Werder since signing from Hannover in 2006.
And the towering centre-back has demonstrated his commitment to the club by signing a fresh deal that will keep him at Weserstadion until 2012.
Mertesacker cited the club's potential as the reason for signing the extension, expressing his belief that they can claim Bundesliga glory next season.
"I am convinced that we are going to be serious challengers for the title, we are strong in all sectors of the team," he said.
