Defender Arthur Boka has joined Stuttgart's growing injury list after damaging knee ligaments in Saturday's home defeat to Hannover.
The 24-year-old Ivory Coast international is now expected to be sidelined for four to six weeks.
The news is a massive blow to Stuttgart boss Armin Veh as his team struggle to find the form that took them to the Bundesliga title last term.
Veh is already without the services of Thomas Hitzlsperger, Matthieu Delpierre, Yildiray Basturk and Antonio da Silva - who are all long-term casualties.
"The physical state of my players is a real problem. Our squad is simply too small to cope with this programme of games," Veh told the German press.
Veh also confirmed that he has spoken to national coach Joachim Low and asked him to use his players as sparingly as possible for the forthcoming Euro 2008 matches against Republic of Ireland and Czech Republic.
