Italian cleared to play against Schalke

Bayern Munich striker Luca Toni looks set to return to action against Schalke on Saturday. The Italian was forced to miss his country's Euro 2008 qualifiers against France and Ukraine with a thigh injury, and had appeared doubtful for Bayern's crucial Bundesliga clash. However, Bayern coach Ottmar Hitzfeld has confirmed that he will be fit to play. "He has been given the all-clear from the doctors," Hitzfeld told the German press "But we've got six games in the next three weeks, so we have to make sure we don't overdo things."

Schlaudraff back in training

Germany international Jan Schlaudraff has trained with his Bayern team-mates for the first time since his summer transfer from Alemannia Aachen. The forward had surgery over the summer to repair a slipped disc and is pleased to be on the comeback trail. He said: "I have enjoyed the first few sessions. There's no pain and no problems. "The most important thing was just to get back onto the field." Schlaudraff may have to wait a few weeks for his debut, with Hitzfeld adding: "It's much too early to say when he'll be able to play, but he'll definitely get a game or two before Christmas."
