Werder Bremen joined FC Nurnberg and Bayern Munich at the top of the table, as the champions slumped to a 1-0 defeat at bottom club Wolfsburg.

Mike Hanke scored the decisive goal in the 36th minute and the VW-Arena side hung on to take all three points and shoot themselves up to 14th in the league.

Bayern stayed on 10 points, as Bremen went level with them at the top with a 3-0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach at the Weser Stadion.

The home side scored all three in the space of five minutes towards the end of the first half. Aaron Hunt put Bremen ahead on 33 minutes before Christian Schulz doubled the lead on 35 minutes and Diego sealed the victory just two minutes later to complete the rout.

FC Nurnberg also moved top with a 1-1 draw at home to FSV Mainz.

Jan Polak gave the Franken Stadion outfit a 24th minute lead in the game. But with Jawhar Mnari sent off they were thwarted a victory by Christoph Babatz late equaliser five minutes from time.

VFL Bochum dropped to bottom after their 2-1 defeat against Alemania Aachen. Theofanis Gekas put the visitors into a 1-0 lead on 36 minutes, but the Tivoli outfit hit back twice in a minute after half time to bag all three points. Jan Schlaudraff scored the first on 48 minutes and Sascha Rosler completed the comeback on 49 minutes.

Arminia Bielefeld moved up to 11th with their impressive 3-1 home win to high flyers Energie Cottbus. The visitors took the lead through Vlad Munteanu on 22 minutes. Sibusiso Zuma levelled for Bielefeld on 48 minutes, Artur Wichniarek (62) and Ioannis Masmanidis (74) completed the scoring.

Hamburg remained in the bottom three after twice coming back from behind to gain a point at the Commerzbank-Arena. Alexander Meier put Frankfurt ahead on 36 minutes and Ioannis Amanatidis made it two on 58 minutes, but Daniel Ljuboja (51) and Boubacar Sanogo (69) both scored for the visitors to rescue a point.
