Ascoli have been dealt a crushing blow with the news that the Italian FA have refused to ratify Luigi Di Biagio's contract.
The veteran midfielder was unveiled by Ascoli last month after joining on a free transfer until the end of the season.
Di Biagio stated at his unveiling that he wanted to help the club preserve their Serie A status, but he will have to kick his heels in the stands as his contract has not been signed off.
The Italian FA have revealed that Di Biagio did not end his association with Brescia until after the June 30 cut-off point.
As such, Di Biagio will have to wait until the transfer window opens in January before sealing a move to Ascoli.
