Mallorca defender Mark Iuliano has launched a scathing attack on the standard of Spanish referees.

The 31-year-old joined Mallorca from Juventus during the January transfer window, but has already been sent off twice in just eight games for his new employers.

The former Italy international insists it is the officials in La Liga and not he who is to blame for his dismissals, describing the performances of Spanish referees as 'shameful'.

"I swear I have never seen referees as bad as the last two (Gonzalez Vasquez and Pino Zamorano), it's shameful," Iuliano stated.

"In Italy the referees are criticised a lot, but what I have seen over the last two weekends, like in the Barcelona - Real Betis game, is just too much.

"They have to do something here in Spain because you can't have referees so far from the action, always with their back to play and not seeing what is happening."
