Club president Pietro Franza has targeted two attacking players as part of his rebuilding plans, and he is due to fly out to Japan for talks with Atsushi Yanagisawa.
The Kashima Antlers man spent a year at Sampdoria and, although he did not make a massive impact, Franza believes the Japan international could do much better this time around.
Messina are also eyeing Croatian marksman Davor Vugrinec from fellow Italian side Atalanta.
Vugrinec still has two years left on his contract in Bergamo but is hopeful of making the switch to the Sicilian outfit before the start of the new term.
He had a poor season during the last campaign but hopes for better with Messina, and the two clubs are already locked in talks over the move.
