Roma edge thriller, Fiorentina slip up and Reggina win at last

AC Milan moved up to second in the table as Roma kept their hopes of securing a top-four finish alive as they prevailed in a five-goal thriller. Fiorentina suffered a setback in their efforts to climb into the UEFA Champions League places and Reggina claimed a first victory in 19 games. Filippo Inzaghi bagged a hat-trick as Milan leapfrogged Juventus into second spot after thrashing Torino 5-1 at the San Siro. Milan were in front after 13 minutes when Inzaghi headed home David Beckham's corner before the two players combined again for the second goal on 37 minutes. Inzaghi completed his hat-trick on the hour mark after being played in by Ronaldinho before Kaka converted from the penalty spot after Massimo Ambrosini had been brought down by Torino keeper Matteo Sereni. Torino claimed a consolation through Ivan Franceschini on 80 minutes, but Ambrosini rounded off the rout in the final minute after being set up by Kaka. Roma knew three points from a home date with Lecce were vital and they were pushed all the way before eventually claiming a 3-2 win. Talismanic skipper Francesco Totti fired the hosts in front at Stadio Olimpico after just three minutes, before Matteo Brighi doubled that lead 10 minutes later. Lecce refused to lie down, though, and Gianni Munari pulled one back just after the half-hour mark when he squeezed home from a tight angle. Dimitros Papadopoulos levelled matters 10 minutes after half-time, but it took only four minutes for Totti to restore Roma's lead as he made no mistake from the spot following a foul on Julio Baptista. Lecce's hopes of rescuing the game were then extinguished on 72 minutes when Luca Ariatti was given his marching orders. Fiorentina remain fifth, two points off the Champions League places, after they went down 3-1 at Udinese. Kwadwo Asamoah opened the scoring inside 10 minutes for the home side and Gaetano D'Agostino stroked home from the penalty spot two minutes into the second half to put them in complete control. Dario Dainelli pulled one back for La Viola when he headed home on 67 minutes, but D'Agostino wrapped up the points for Udinese two minutes later with a spectacular free-kick. Palermo were another side in impressive form on Sunday as they saw off Bologna 4-1 at Renzo Barbera. Manuel Belleni put through his own net after six minutes to open the floodgates and Simon Kjaer had the hosts further in front moments before the interval. Davide Succi made it three on 64 minutes, before Sergio Volpi saw red for Bologna 13 minutes from time. Marco Di Vaio did snatch a consolation with six minutes remaining, but Edison Cavani rounded off the scoring in stoppage-time. Reggina remain rooted to the foot of the table but secured a precious 1-0 victory over Atalanta to give themselves hope. Fabio Ceravolo grabbed the only goal of the game on 40 minutes after Andrea Consigli had done well to keep out an effort from Andrea Costa. Napoli slipped to a 2-0 defeat away at Cagliari and have now gone 14 games without a win. They fell behind on Sunday to Jeda's fifth minute opener and conceded again with only seconds left on the clock as Andrea Lazzari finished off a flowing counter attack. Catania were also 2-0 victors this weekend as they brought Sampdoria's recent resurgence to an abrupt end. Giuseppe Mascara made no mistake from the penalty spot after 39 minutes to put the home side on their way and Jorge Martinez made sure the points stayed at Angelo Massimino with a second three minutes after the break. Chievo saw off Siena 2-0 to give their survival hopes a welcome boost at a crucial stage of the season. It took 23 minutes for Domenico Di Carlo's side to take the lead, with Sergio Pellissier grabbing his first of the game. The in-form striker then sealed the win on 48 minutes as he made no mistake with a crisp left-footed drive.
