Cristiano Lucarelli has joined Napoli on loan from Serie A rivals Parma with a view to a permanent deal.
The journeyman striker had been loaned out to one of his former club's Livorno last season and the 34-year-old produced 10 goals in 28 matches during his spell.
The former Italy striker produced his best football during his first spell at the Stadio Armando Picchi, where he scored 92 goals in 146 appearances during a four-year stint from 2003 to 2007 and was the Serie A top scorer in 2004-05 with 24 goals in 35 games.
"Lucarelli is with Napoli now and he can feel like a part of our family," president Aurelio de Laurentiis told Radio Marte.
He scored three goals in six appearances for Italy and his experienced presence should fill the void left by the departure of Argentina's German Denis to Udinese.
Napoli take a slender one-goal lead to Swedish side Elfsborg in the return leg of their Europa League third qualifying round on Thursday.
