Parma bag away draw

Parma have the upper hand against Austria Vienna following a first leg 1-1 draw.

Serie A strugglers Parma have the upper hand in their Uefa Cup tie against Austria Vienna following a first leg 1-1 draw at Ernst Happel.

Parma were keen to field a competitive side in Austria, but clearly had one eye on their league clash away to Reggina at the weekend.

Andrea Pisanu's first half goal gave the Italians a priceless lead, however they could not hang on for the win with Sebastian Mila equalising after half time.

Parma, who have a superb defensive record in the Uefa Cup, took the lead just after the half hour mark when Pisanu's shot deflected off Rabiu Afolabi and beat Szabolcs Safar in the home net.

Vienna looked much more of an attacking threat after the break and deservedly levelled matters after 60 minutes with Sebastian Mila latching onto Stipan Vachousek's cross from the left.

The home side pressed for that all important advantage to take to Italy, but Parma hung on for the away draw that gives them the upper hand for the second leg at Stadio Ennio Tardini.
