Gilardino eyes home comforts

Parma striker Alberto Gilardino is hoping to score for the national team on his home ground.

Parma striker Alberto Gilardino is hoping to score for the national team on his home ground against Belarus.

Italy tackle Belarus next Wednesday at the Ennio Tardini and Gilardino admitted it would be a dream to find the net on his home turf.

"I would like to play at Parma against Belarus and score in front of my fans," he said.

"I would be happy to be on the pitch, however I'm already extremely pleased at having been called up and being part of this group."

Meanwhile, Italy have been handed a boost with the news that Simone Perrotta will be fit to play in their two qualifiers this week.

It was feared the midfielder may have to pull out of the squad due to injury, but the Italian national team medical staff have passed him fit to play against Slovenia and Belarus.
