PSV EINDHOVEN 2 PARMA 1

DUTCH GIANTS PSV Eindhoven will be wondering how they failed to register more than a 2-1 win over Serie A stars Parma, as they dominated the game from start to finish but still find the game in the balance.

Parma were happy to play on the counter-attack and it looked as though this tactic would fail when Andre Ooijer latched onto a goalmouth scramble and drove the ball high into the net in the 16th minute.

PSV continued to stride forward but a combination of slack finishing and desperate defence kept the home side out.

The second half was more of the same, but PSV were guilty of overconfidence that allowed the visitors to equalise.

As they continued raiding forward, a quick break by Parma found Patrick Mboma (pictured) alone in the PSV area and he had a simple task to head a 67th minute equaliser home.

This seemed to wake the home side up and they quickly got back to their attacking ways which were rewarded with a quarter of an hour left when Dennis Rommedahl latched onto substitute John de Jong's great pass and Rommedahl drove the ball into the net.

However, despite almost constant pressure in the closing moments, PSV could not get the two goal cushion and the tie is precariously balanced going into the second leg in Italy.
