Paul Pogba scored a superb goal and created another as Serie A leaders Juventus beat Chievo 2-0 in Turin.

The former Manchester United midfielder unlocked a tense battle in Turin with a fantastic opener on the hour mark, nutmegging one man before unleashing a powerful 25-yard drive, before turning provider when laying the ball on for Stephan Lichtsteiner to tuck away a second in the 74th minute.

Juventus' lead by Sunday evening was seven points after Roma could only draw 1-1 away at Fiorentina.

Mario Gomez put the hosts ahead on 19 minutes, before an Adem Ljajic equaliser just after half-time.

Samuel Eto'o watched his new Sampdoria team-mates play out a 1-1 draw with Palermo at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris after completing a medical.

Eder's early opener temporarily boosted them into third place but Franco Vazquez hit back after the break and Palermo were unlucky not to turn their second-half dominance into a victory although a point was enough to move them up to eighth in the table.

With 34 points from 20 games, Sinisa Mihaljovic's Sampdoria temporarily climb above Napoli into fourth place.

Inter Milan’s disappointing Serie A campaign continued as they were beaten 1-0 by a last-gasp goal at home to Torino.

Emiliano Moretti scored a header four minuites into injury-time to secure a rare win for his side at the San Siro, which leaves Inter eight points off Lazio in the final Champions League spot.

Elsewhere, Javier Saviola struck the only goal of the game in the 53rd minute as Hellas Verona overcame Atalanta.

The former Barcelona striker arrived at the near post to convert Lazaros Christodoulopoulos’ delivery as Verona bounced back from heavy consecutive defeats at the hands of Juventus.

Parma dropped to the bottom of the table after being beaten 2-1 at home by Cesena who had started the day propping up the division.

Nico Pulzetti opened the scoring for the away side midway through the first half, before an Emmanuel Cascione own goal levelled the scores with just under 15 minutes to go.

The game seemed to be heading for a draw, but Alejandro Rodriguez scored the winner for Cesena in the 90th minute.
