Sky Sports sources understand that West Ham are set to enquire about Marseille's Mamadou Samassa.
The 24-year-old striker is set to be made available on loan by l'OM after he spent much of last season away from the Stade Velodrome.
Samassa, who was linked with a move to England last summer with Middlesbrough, joined Valenciennes and he impressed with six goals in just 11 starts.
Now it is understood that the Hammers are ready to try and take Samassa on loan for next season.
Samassa current has three years left on his current Marseille contract, having joined in 2008 from Le Mans.
He was signed as a replacement for Djibril Cisse, but he has scored just two goals for Marseille and his future looks set to lie away from the French champions.
