Slovenia surged top of Group Five following a shock 1-0 win over Italy in Celje.

The Azzurri looked set for a point on their travels to Slovenia, but were hit with a late sucker punch.

With the game set for a goalless draw Bostjan Cesar made himself the hero by scoring after 82 minutes.

Marcello Lippi's charges were unable to muster a response in the closing stages to give Slovenia a famous win.

Belarus maintained their unbeaten start to their World Cup qualifying campaign and kept Moldova pointless following a 4-0 win in Minsk.

Sergey Omelianchuk put the home side ahead a minute before the interval and a second after the break from Vitaly Kutuzov put Belarus in control.

Vitaliy Bulyga added a third before Maxim Romaschenko completed the rout to leave Belarus in a solid position in Group Five with the win.

The three-point haul leaves Belarus on four points from their opening two games, while Moldova, who have failed to score from their three contests, prop up the table.
