Speculation heightens that former striker could move to Fiorentina

Catania have confirmed that Vincenzo Montella has left his position as coach, fuelling speculation he is poised to take charge at Fiorentina. Montella has only been at the Catania helm for one season, but guided the club to an impressive 11th-placed finish in Serie A. A Catania statement read: "The club have announced that it has been agreed in principle to terminate the relationship with coach Vincenzo Montella." The former Italy international's work at Catania prompted rumours that he could return to Roma, where he enjoyed a spell in caretaker charge in 2010/11. At that time, Roma were warned off an approach by Catania before Serie A rivals Fiorentina showed an interest in appointing Montella to replace Delio Rossi. Fiorentina president Mario Cognini stated last week that the 37-year-old could be the 'right coach' to lead the club forward next season.
