The 33-year-old spent almost five years with Internazionale but joined Torino last autumn until the end of the 2001/02 season.
However, he failed to secure a more permanent stay with Torino and has been searching for a new club.
He has signed a one-year contract with Como and will be keen to make an impact with the top flight new boys.
Cauet admitted he was contemplating a return to France and also spurned offers from England before committing himself to Como.
"I was ready to go back to France but no club showed interest," said Cauet.
"I was training alone and I started to find that time passed slowly.
"During the last few days, I first had contact with two English clubs and two Italian ones. I am happy to stay in Italy."
