SIENA director Nelso Ricci has told planetfootball that preparations for life in Serie A are not going smoothly, admitting that he is banging his head against a brick wall in the hunt for quality new players.

Serie A newcomers Siena know that they must bring in quality if they are not to face an immediate drop back into Serie B.

However, after laughing off suggestions that they are in for Paolo Di Canio, the club's financial situation is making the hunt difficult.

"Unfortunately I have no good news to tell," admitted the down-beat director.

"We have not signed a striker yet and Ighli Tare is too expensive for us.

"With Enrico Chiesa it is a similar problem.

"Big stars demand big wages and we simply cannot fulfil their requests.

"When it comes to finding strikers I am afraid to say we are banging our head against a brick wall.

"People have also mentioned Luigi Di Biagio at Internazionale, but we simply cannot afford to bring an international in.

"We have not got money and we have to improvise.

"Our captain gets wages of 380 million lira (£140,000) a year - that should stop all the speculation!"
