Livorno's Raffaele Palladino has landed the prestigious Premio Piola award.

The prize is handed out each year in recognition of the best Italian Under-21 striker and is awarded by the provincial administrator of Vercelli.

The honour was first introduced in order to remember Silvio Piola - a local hero in the area after representing the Azzurri between the 1930s and 1950s.

Previous winners include Massimo Maccarone, Giuseppe Sculli, Alberto Gilardino and Giampaolo Pazzini.

"I'm really happy for this award," Palladino told skysports.com.

"I'm really emotional. Honestly, when I knew I won this award I didn't believe it - I thought there must have been a mistake - but then I had confirmation and knowing that my name is on this award gives me a lot of satisfaction.

"This season I've been troubled by injury and I hope to be able to play well over the next six months. I have a big desire to do good things."
