Juve held by Catania but move top as Genoa lose

None of the top three managed to win on Sunday but a draw was enough to lift Juventus to the Serie A summit as Genoa lost. Genoa had been the surprise early pacesetters after the opening three games but suffered their first loss of the season as they went down 2-1 at Chievo. Chievo substitute Davide Moscardelli scored with practically the last kick of the game to take the Flying Donkeys above their opponents. Rodrigo Palacio had put the visitors in front early in the second half before Sergio Pellissier levelled 15 minutes from time. Genoa played the last half an hour with 10 men after Dario Dainelli was sent off for giving away a penalty, which Sebastien Frey saved from Pellissier. Juventus did not take full advantage of Genoa's slip-up but still moved top after coming from behind to hold Catania to a 1-1 draw away from home. Gonzalo Bergessio's opener for the hosts midway through the first half was cancelled out by Milos Krasic's equaliser early in the second half. Udinese could have also clambered into first position by beating Cagliari but they had to settle for a point following a goalless stalemate. There was also a 0-0 draw at the Stadio Olimpico as Lazio were held by Palermo despite dominating possession, as the Sicilian visitors defended well. Novara were left infuriated after going down to a 2-1 defeat away to Atalanta in a match which ended in controversial fashion. The battle of the Serie A newcomers was going comfortably in the home side's favour when Matias Schelotto and Luca Cigarini put them two goals clear. Novara managed to halve the deficit with a minute of normal time remaining through Filippo Porcari, but appeared to have run out of time. They had one more chance, though, which Pablo Granoche took, only for the goal to be disallowed for offside despite replays proving otherwise. Siena picked up their first win of the season as they cruised to a 3-0 triumph at home to ten-man Lecce. Mattia Destro broke the deadlock for Siena after just six minutes and Emanuele Calaio scored twice in the second half to wrap up the victory. Lecce's misery was compounded when Andrea Esposito was sent off for a second bookable offence just after the hour mark. In Sunday's late kick-off, Roma edged out Parma 1-0 to pick up their second victory of the campaign. Pablo Osvaldo grabbed the only goal of the game, nodding home an Aleandro Rosi cross five minutes into the second half. On the back of another defeat, Parma remain inside the Serie A drop zone.
