Serie A Sunday Round-Up

Internazionale were crowned Serie A champions following victory at Siena.

Internazionale's win at Siena and Roma's defeat at Atalanta confirmed the formalities of the Nerazzurri's 15th Serie A title.

After winning last season's version by default following Juventus' demotion and after the disappointment of the midweek defeat to Roma, Roberto Mancini's side were able to uncork the champagne in style on Sunday.

Marco Materazzi was Inter's unlikely goal hero with the 18th minute opener and the decisive penalty kick on the hour after Paolo Negro's 21st minute equaliser for the hosts.

The Nerazzurri were able to celebrate because Roma slipped to a surprise 2-1 defeat at mid-table Atalanta.

Cristiano Doni (37) and Riccardo Zampagna (44) gave Luciano Spalletti's team a mountain to climb and Simone Perrotta's goal midway through the second half was scant consolation for the visitors, whose frustration boiled over with a straight red card for defender Matteo Ferrari in injury time.

Adrian Mutu's 71st minute strike gave Fiorentina a 1-0 win at Lazio to boost the visitors' Uefa Cup aspirations and put a dent in the UEFA Champions League dreams of the hosts.

Chievo received a major boost in their bid for survival with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Livorno.

The Flying Donkeys had to come from behind after Cristiano Lucarelli's 17th minute opener for the visitors.

Sergio Pellissier's 55th minute strike and Erjon Bogdani's effort a quarter of an hour from time completed an impressive fightback in the second half.

Chievo climbed above Reggina in the standings but the strugglers were grateful for a point after Nicola Amoruso's 84th minute penalty rescued a 1-1 draw at home to Udinese, who had been given the lead by Sulley Muntari in the 26th minute.

Torino still have work to do to confirm their top flight status for next season but a goalless draw at fifth-placed Empoli is very much a point gained.

The evening's late game saw Parma move out of the relegation zone with a shock 4-3 success at Palermo - who remain in sixth.

Croatian ace Igor Budan put Parma ahead (25) but Palermo were 2-1 up at the interval thanks to a Mark Bresciano strike and a David Di Michele penalty.

Parma took control in the second period as Fernando Couto, Andrea Gasbarroni and in-form Manchester United loanee Giuseppe Rossi all scored, whilst Marco Pisano was dismissed for Palermo.

Palermo did make the game interesting with a late Cristian Zaccardo strike - but the Sicilian outfit could not find an equaliser.
