Atalanta striker Christian Vieri has opted to head to America for a second operation on his injured knee.
Vieri picked up a knee injury towards the end of last term which ruled him out of the World Cup finals, but an operation in May failed to alleviate the problem.
The striker has failed to return to fitness over the last couple of months and has opted to head to America for a second bout of surgery.
"Christian will have to undergo a little surgery to his knee," Atalanta coach Stefano Colantuono revealed.
Colantuono feels the operation will have no effect the veteran's recovery, hopeful he will be fit by the start of February.
"As for the time of recovery it doesn't change a lot. 20 days, more or less, won't make much difference.
"We hope to have him fit for the end of January or the beginning of February."
