Livorno keeper Marco Amelia has revealed he is ready to grab his World Cup chance with both hands.

Amelia is determined to earn a call-up with the Azzurri as Italy's third-choice keeper when Marcello Lippi names his squad for the finals in Germany.

The 23-year-old is battling with Udinese's Morgan De Sanctis for a place on the plane after enjoying a fine campaign with the Tuscan side.

"For this role, there are me and Udinese's Morgan De Sanctis," he insisted.

"With Livorno, I'm having a good season and so I'll try and take my chances until the end.

"Coach Lippi put us in a logical competition but he didn't reveal himself.

"He will probably keep us in suspense until May 15."
