Udinese midfielder Giampiero Pinzi is likely to remain on the sidelines until the New Year after undergoing surgery on a knee injury.
The 24-year-old suffered the problem two months ago in a game against Juventus, but did return to action briefly before aggravating his knee further.
Club bosses had hoped he would be able to recover without surgery, but doctors advised that he should have an operation on his meniscus.
The news will come as a massive blow to Udinese, who, despite making a disappointing start to their Serie A campaign, look set to qualify for the next stage of the UEFA Champions League.
