Striker close to resolving future

Alberto Gilardino has hinted he is ready to remain with Fiorentina after an uncertain few months at the club. The 29-year-old had been linked with a move to Genoa over the summer but that deal failed to materialise. Gilardino boasts an impressive scoring record for the Viola and has scored nearly 60 goals during his four-year tenure at the club.

However, he now seems ready to commit to the Florence-based outfit. "The last two or three months were not easy but I have spoken to Andrea Della Valle [Fiorentina owner]," he told Sky Italia. "Now I want to concentrate on only playing and between now and December we will see if there is a chance to sit down and speak about renewing my contract." Gilardino's present deal with the club expires in 2013.
