Baggies confirm interest in French hot-shot

West Brom have confirmed their interest in signing striker Frederic Piquionne from Lyon. As reported by skysports.com, the Premier League newcomers are keen to secure the 31-year-old's goal-scoring prowess in their bid to stay in the top flight. But they face competition for the striker, who is in demand after he scored 11 goals in all competitions during a season-long loan stay at relegated Portsmouth last term. Piquionne has since returned to Lyon but Albion have now confirmed they would like to bring him back to the Premier League. The club's sporting and technical director Dan Ashworth said: "Frederic has got a couple of years left at Lyon and we've made an inquiry but there is no firm commitment. "He is a player who has been linked with three or four clubs so he's not short of options." Fulham and West Ham are both also understood to be interested in the French international, with the Hammers believed to be in pole position to sign the star. Meanwhile, Albion also expect more offers to be made for their Spanish midfielder Borja Valero. The 25-year-old is back training with the Baggies after enjoying a successful season on loan back at Real Mallorca - the club West Brom signed him from two years ago. He has intimated he would welcome a permanent move back to Spain after struggling to adapt to the Premier League during the 2008-2009 campaign.
