Fiorentina goalkeeper Sebastien Frey has returned to Florence to continue his rehabilitation.
Frey underwent season-ending surgery in January to repair knee ligament damage he picked up against Juventus but has now returned to Italy to work alongside his team-mates.
"I've been too far from the pitch for too long," said Frey.
"I've been working hard with a group of doctors and physiotherapists who helped me at the start of the rehabilitation.
"I want to continue to improve here although I won't be able to play again this season."
The Frenchman saw Reggina's goalkeeper Nicola Pavarini also suffer a serious injury at the weekend and Frey believes that goalkeepers do not get protected enough by the officials.
"Keeper's aren't safeguarded and there are too many injured for fouls that could be avoided.
"I hope everyone see these things happen and can give us help to get the rules changed because they are becoming more frequent."
