Fiorentina have stumped up ‚é¼3 million to sign Bologna defender Alessandro Gamberini.

The 23-year-old has become the latest recruit for new Viola coach Cesare Prandelli, who is aiming to improve on a past season blighted by a relegation battle.

Prandelli has brought Gamberini to Artemio Franchi on a four-year contract and the defender is delighted with his move, following Bologna's relegation from Serie A.

"I come to Florence with the enthusiasm to restart working soon," said Gamberini.

"I know coach Cesare Prandelli's work having seen the results he got at Parma.

"I am really happy to join such an important side like Fiorentina and I'll try to underline all my qualities."

The Viola are now trying to bring in a new striker, with their bid to sign Palermo hot shot Luca Toni looking doomed to failure.

Valencia's unsettled attacker Bernardo Corradi is another option for Prandelli as he seeks to stamp his own mark on the Fiorentina squad.
