Empoli turn to former boss following relegation

Empoli president Fabrizio Corsi has confirmed Silvio Baldini will manage the team next season following their relegation to Serie B. Baldini, 49, has already had a spell at the helm of the club having managed the team from 1999 until 2003. Corsi has confirmed the club will put their faith in youth next season, although the final decisions will be down to Baldini. "He has already worked with us in a really good way. He's won promotion, saved us and launched many players' careers," explained Corsi.

Swift return

"We would have preferred restarting with him in Serie A, but we will be able to return soon from Serie B. "We will bet on few players from our youth side, but these are evaluations we will leave with the new coach." Empoli were so close to securing their top-flight status on the last day of the season following a 2-1 win over Livorno, but Catania's 1-1 draw with Roma meant they missed out. "Considering Roma were going for the scudetto it's an incredible result for Catania," he concluded.
