Serie A new-boys Palermo have given up on their bid to sign Uruguayan star Ernesto Javier Chevanton from Lecce.

The Sicilian outfit have been attempting to land the South American striker, but now they have pulled out of the deal.

"We won't buy Chevanton," said president Maurizio Zamparini.

"He costs too much."

Lecce are believed to be asking ‚é¼10 million or ‚é¼8 million plus the co-ownership of the player but they rejected Palermo's ‚é¼7 million offer plus Romanian midfielder Paul Codrea.

Juventus could now rekindle their interest in Chevanton, with Lecce known to be interested in Fabrizio Miccoli.

Palermo could now turn their attention back to Antonio Di Natale, although Fiorentina are also thought to be looking at the Empoli striker.
