Filippo Inzaghi blamed fatigue for AC Milan's failure to overcome Cagliari on Wednesday night but believes the Rossoneri are well-equipped to keep moving up the Serie A table.

Victor Ibarbo opened the scoring for the hosts at Stadio Sant'Elia with Giacomo Bonaventura equalising before half-time to force a 1-1 draw.

The point leaves Milan in a share of third place but two more would have narrowed the gap on joint leaders Juventus and Roma to only four points.

Head coach Inzaghi bemoaned the fact his side had been pitted against tricky opposition in the shape of Fiorentina as recently as Sunday while Cagliari had enjoyed extra time to recover from their comfortable victory at Empoli.

He told Milan's official website: "Cagliari had the advantage of having played on Saturday, whereas we came off the back of a tough match on Sunday.

"But we could have even lost today, and instead we take home an important point for the league table, we're in third place.

"I suppose there are many sides in Serie A that struggle more than us.

"We could have done more, but as of Sunday (at home to Palermo) we will already have the chance to collect important points. It won't be easy for anybody to win here."

Midfielder Bonaventura added: "Winning today against Cagliari would have been difficult for anybody, as they had an excellent match.

"We suffered in the first half, we tried to control the match, but their forwards put us in difficulty and forced us back in defence, which is not what we want.

"It wasn't a brilliant performance by us, but credit to the others that did well, we picked up a point, but we have to do more."
