Kevin Strootman is delighted to have linked up with Roma and says they were the only serious contenders to sign him.
The Holland international was heavily linked with the likes of Manchester United and AC Milan before opting to leave PSV Eindhoven for the Italian capital.
The 23-year-old midfielder insists talk of interest from elsewhere was based purely on speculation, with no tempting offers tabled.
Roma used that situation to their advantage as they swooped to secure Strootman's signature and he is convinced that he has joined a team heading towards a bright future.
He told La Gazzetta dello Sport: "Did Manchester United and AC Milan want me? Only Roma came forward seriously for me and I liked their project.
"Rudi Garcia called me and convinced me to make the move, and I'm happy to be here.
"There are so many good players here, as well as the new ones like Maicon, (Mehdi) Benatia and Gervinho.
"I want to prove that I am worth all the money (£15.6m) that Roma spent on me, and then I want to win something."
