Muntari crosses Milan divide

The 27-year-old links up with the Rossoneri in a deal which is set to run until the end of the season.

Milan will have to wait a little longer before adding him to their first-team ranks, though, as he is currently away on Africa Cup of Nations duty with Ghana.

Muntari will be hoping to make his mark when he returns to Italy, as he is set to become a free agent at the end of the season.

Inter have no plans to offer him an extension to that deal as he has slowly slipped down their pecking order.

He was sent on loan to Sunderland last season, but the former Portsmouth forward failed to earn a permanent switch.

AC Milan are prepared to offer him another opportunity to prove his worth and have confirmed that an agreement with Inter is in place.

"AC Milan communicates having signed Sulley Muntari on a temporary contract," the club posted on their official Twitter account.

Milan opted to make a move for Muntari after losing midfielder Alexander Merkel to a knee injury for two months.

Merkel only returned to Milan earlier in January in a joint-ownership agreement with Genoa, with the Rossoneri facing a shortage in midfield due to the injury problems of Mathieu Flamini, Gennaro Gattuso and Alberto Aquilani.

On Muntari's arrival, Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri said: "He comes here to do well. He's a player with a lot of physical strength and great technique."
