Moratti says pursuit of Man City striker is 'no joke'

Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti has insisted their pursuit of Carlos Tevez is 'no joke' as they look to beat rivals AC Milan to the Manchester City striker's signature. AC Milan have appeared to be in pole position to land Tevez for some time and are understood to have agreed terms with the player, even though striking a deal with Manchester City could prove to be more difficult. The Premier League club remain determined to sell the out-of-favour Argentine, while AC Milan want to take him on loan in January with a view to the move becoming permanent in the summer. It emerged earlier this month that Inter had joined the chase for the 27-year-old and could be prepared to make a bid to buy him immediately, but it was suggested that they may just be trying to unsettle AC Milan. Moratti has now confirmed, however, that Inter are seriously interested in signing Tevez and have made contact with City.

So much time

He is not building his hopes up at this early stage of the transfer window but recognises there is plenty of time to push through a deal. "Our interest in Tevez is real, it's not a joke," Moratti told fcinternews.it. "We think it might be a good operation. "We tried to get information (from City) to understand how things were, if there was room or not (for us), then we'll see if we can take him or not. "It's not a matter of being optimistic or pessimistic, but just wait and see what happens. "There are still 20 days at the end of the transfer market, there is so much time."
