Napoli ended Udinese's unbeaten start to the season as AC Milan closed on the Serie A leaders and Inter continue to toil.
Lazio missed out on the opportunity to replace Juventus at the top of the table and city rivals Roma suffered a last-gasp defeat at Genoa.
Leaders Juventus now hold the only unbeaten record in Italy's top flight after Udinese fell to a 2-0 reverse away to Napoli.
Argentine striker Ezequiel Lavezzi made the breakthrough for Napoli on 20 minutes and Christian Maggio added the second just before half-time.
AC Milan 4 Parma 1
Atalanta 1 Inter Milan 1
Cesena 1 Cagliari 1
Chievo 0 Bologna 1
Genoa 2 Roma 1
Lazio 1 Catania 1
Napoli 2 Udinese 0
Novara 1 Siena 1
Antonio Nocerino fired a hat-trick as reigning champions Milan moved to within two points of the summit after thrashing Parma 4-1 at the San Siro.
Nocerino scored twice in the space of two first-half minutes to put Milan in control before Zlatan Ibrahimovic added the third on 73 minutes.
Reported Chelsea target Sebastian Giovinco pulled a goal back for Parma on 78 minutes before Nocerino completed his hat-trick in the last minute.
Inter Milan remain just outside the relegation places after letting the lead slip in a 1-1 draw away to Atalanta.
Dutch playmaker Wesley Sneijder put Inter ahead on 32 minutes before German Denis levelled on 44 minutes before missing a penalty a minute from full-time.
Lazio could have gone top with a home win over Catania, but conceded a second-half equaliser in a 1-1 draw.
Germany international Miroslav Klose had Lazio on top with a 17th minute opener, but Gonzalo Bergessio earned Catania a point with a 63rd minute leveller.
Substitute Juraj Kucka scored an 89th minute winner as Genoa battled to a 2-1 home victory over Roma.
Genoa had earlier taken the lead through Bosko Jankovic's first-half goal before Fabio Borini's 82nd minute effort appeared likely to be enough to give Roma a point until Kucka's late salvo.
Bottom-of-the-table Cesena are still awaiting a first win of the season after coming from behind to draw 1-1 at home with Cagliari.
Nene's penalty provided Cagliari with a 20th minute lead, but Antonio Candreva's spot-kick on the stroke of half-time secured a point for Cesena.
Fellow strugglers Novara also hit back from behind to draw at home after a 1-1 stalemate with Siena.
Emanuele Calaio's 17th minute goal appeared set to give Siena a third win of the season until substitute Giuseppe Gemiti salvaged a point for Novara with 10 minutes to go.
