Sunderland will have to negotiate with Lyon

John Mensah has not already finalised a summer move to Sunderland, skysports.com understands. Mensah is currently on his second season-long loan at the Stadium of Light and reports in France claimed that a deal was already in place for him to sign for Sunderland once the season was complete. However, his agent Fabian Piveteau has confirmed to skysports.com that there was an option included in the initial move that the deal would be made permanent if Mensah played 25 Premier League matches. Mensah is now enjoying a run in the first team, but because he has missed a large chunk of the campaign due to injury, he will not be able to play enough games to meet the option. "The reports in France are not true, it is not agreed," Piveteau told skysports.com. "There was an option, where if he played 25 games then the deal would become permanent - but that is not possible now as there are not enough matches left in the season."

Deal

Piveteau admitted that a deal could still be done, but Sunderland and Lyon would need to agree fresh terms. "That matter is with the clubs, and what Lyon want - you will have to ask them." He did confirm that Mensah was enjoying life on Wearside, adding: "He does like it there. "He prefers to play and he has been doing that." Piveteau also represents Sulley Muntari, who joined Sunderland on loan from Inter Milan in January. He says his future will be decided come the end of the season, adding: "We do not know what will happen with Sulley yet."
