When Cagliari's Andrea Lazzari powered home a free-kick after 73 minutes it was looking bleak for Roma.

However, Francesco Totti was at his best again though as he bagged a late brace - the second from the penalty spot - as Roma won 2-1.

The result has left Roma trailing leaders Inter Milan by two points heading into the final week of the campaign.

There was no lack of drama at the San Siro either as Inter had to withstand a late Chievo fightback to hold on to a win which keeps them two points clear with one game remaining.

Thiago Motta's own goal gave the away side the lead before Andrea Mantovani also put through his own net to drag Inter level.

Esteban Cambiasso, Diego Milito and Mario Balotelli put Jose Mourinho's men in total control only for late goals from Pablo Granoche and Sergio Pellissier to cause a few nerves for the Nerazzurri.

Bologna and Catania played out an entertaining draw on the day both sides sealed their Serie A survival for another season.

The two clubs knew a draw would be enough to beat the drop, and that is exactly what they served up as Maxi Lopez's second-half leveller cancelled out Marco Di Vaio's opener for the hosts.

In the end the result was academic with Atalanta the last team who could overhaul either side, going down to a 2-0 defeat at Napoli.

The hosts, who will play in the Europa League next season, won it with two goals from Fabio Quagliarella. Atalanta will join Siena and Livorno in Serie B.

Genoa ended their season at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris with a narrow win over AC Milan, although their fans were unable to share in their team's celebrations.

The game was played behind closed doors due to the fear of crowd violence and the Genoa supporters missed seeing their team return to winning ways thanks to a 57th-minute goal from Giuseppe Sculli.

To compound Milan's misery, Mathieu Flamini saw red late on for a second bookable offence.

Bari and Udinese played out a six-goal thriller. Paulo Vito Barreto put Bari in front only for Antonio Di Natale and Simone Pepe to turn the game around in Udinese's favour.

Vladimir Konan then restored parity six minutes before half-time. Di Natale's second put Udinese back into the lead, only for Sergio Almiron to net a leveller for Bari in the final minute.

Parma enjoyed a fantastic day in Turin as they beat Juventus 3-2.

Alessandro Del Piero and Vincenzo Iaquinta scored for Juve at either end of a pulsating encounter but, in between, a brace from Davide Lanzafame and a Jonathan Biabiany effort secured Parma the win.

Siena managed a creditable draw at Fiorentina. Simone Vergassola handed Siena an early lead at the Stadio Artemio Franchi but Marco Marchionni levelled after 14 minutes.

Livorno went down 2-1 at home to capital outfit Lazio. Cristiano Lucarelli scored Livorno's goal in between strikes from Tommaso Rocchi and Cristian Brocchi.
