BOLOGNA have targeted Milan midfielder Andrea Pirlo as a possible replacement for long-term injury victim Tomas Locatelli.

Locatelli sustained a serious knee ligament injury in last weekend's defeat to Chievo Verona and he is expected to be out of action for four months.

Bologna coach Francesco Guidolin is keen to bring in a new creative player to take Locatelli's place in the team and he has made Pirlo his top target.

Pirlo, who only joined Milan from city rivals Internazionale in the summer, has failed to establish himself in the Milan team so far this season and The Rossonerri may allow him to leave on loan for regular first team football.

Guidolin has also been linked with a move for Vicenza's Lamberto Zauli and he admitted he was interested in signing him as well.

"My team needs a midfielder with good offensive skills, and Pirlo fits these qualities, even though he is more of a forward, so we are trying to sign Zauli as well," said Guidolin.

The move depends on whether Pirlo wants to move to the Renato Dall'Ara or if he wants stay at Milan and fight for his place with Rui Costa still out injured
