Lazio man hails head coach Reja for his fine early season form

Attacking midfielder Stefano Mauri has denied that he ever wanted to leave Lazio. The 30-year-old put in a man of the match display to help the Biancocelesti record a 2-1 success against Fiorentina on Saturday night. Confident Lazio, strugglers in recent years, have six points from their opening three Serie A matches. Mauri has been praised for his recent performances and commitment to the club's cause this season, despite reported interest in the former Udinese man on transfer deadline day. The Italy international says the reason behind his early season form, and his reason for remaining at the Stadio Olimpico, has been the influence of head coach Edy Reja. Mauri told Sky Italia: "I have never wanted to leave Lazio. "There had been an offer for me on transfer deadline day, but the club said I was non-transferable. "I am really happy here and I'm playing my best football under coach Reja."
