Switzerland midfielder Valon Behrami is facing World Cup heartache as he is showing no signs of recovering from a troublesome groin strain.

The Lazio starlet returned to training on Wednesday but suffered a fresh setback a day later when pulling up in some discomfort.

Kobi Kuhn is unable to name a replacement in his squad at this stage and team doctor Roland Grossen admits a decision perhaps should have been taken earlier on the 21-year-old's fitness.

"We think he has inflamed the adductor muscle running from the groin area to the top of the thigh," explained Grossen. "It makes it painful for him to run or kick a ball.

"We will discuss his situation later today and possibly make a decision then.

"With this injury, he might need a couple of weeks' rest but, by then of course, the tournament would be almost over.

"We talked about replacing him, of course, but the extent of the injury was not clear and, rightly or wrongly, we decided he should stay."
