LAZIO are ready to switch their attentions to Parma ace Hidetoshi Nakata after finally accepting defeat in their bid to sign Udinese trio David Pizarro, Alberto and Martin Jorgensen.

Pizarro was expected to join Lazio along with Alberto and Jorgensen in a player-swap deal but Fabio Liverani's refusal to move in the opposite direction held up the move.

The move is now dead and Lazio are looking elsewhere to bolster their midfield, with Nakata their new top target according to director general Luca Baraldi.

"The conditions were not right for us to continue talks with Udinese," said Baraldi. "A lot of things changed since the original agreement was drawn up."

"He is an important player (Nakata) and one that we want to buy for tactical reasons rather than just commercial ones," added Baraldi.

"In substance there is an agreement between the two clubs. We're just waiting for the Japanese player to make a decision."

Lazio are still trying to resolve Claudio Lopez's future at the Stadio Olimpico.

The Argentine ace, who rejected a move back to former club Valencia earlier this summer, has still to agree a salary cut introduced by the cash-strapped club and Baraldi revealed he will leave if he does not accept their offer.

"Lopez has to adapt himself like the rest of the team and accept the new salary plan," insisted Baraldi.

"The only exception is (Jaap) Stam. The Argentinian has two possibilities: accepting it, or not accepting, but in this case he will have to face his responsibilities or leave."
